Microsoft DirectX – is a set of technologies that enable computers running Windows operating systems to run and display applications rich in color graphics, video, 3D animation, and stereo sound.
DirectX 9.0c includes all previous versions and is required for all Harry Potter PC games from Sorcerer’s Stone to LEGO Harry Potter: Years 5-7.
Previously, its updated versions appeared on the official website, which were needed by newer games. Therefore, if DirectX has not been updated for a long time, then there could be problems with launching games. Since 2010, DirectX 9 has stopped being updated.
Almost every new version of the Windows system contains its own version of DirectX. Therefore, newer systems since Windows Vista do not include previous versions of DirectX and must be installed separately.
Windows Version | Note |
---|---|
Windows 98-2000 | These systems usually included DirectX versions 6.0 — 8.0. Otherwise, DirectX was installed manually. The Philosopher’s Stone and the Chamber of Secrets required at least version 7 to run and usually included an installer for it on their disk. |
Windows XP | This system included DirectX 9.0c. All Harry Potter games need the latest builds. |
Windows Vista | Starting with this system, DirectX 9.0c must be installed manually. Otherwise, games about our pet will not work. This system contains DirectX 10 or 11, depending on the release. |
Windows 7 | Contains DirectX 11. Requires additional installation DirectX 9.0c, 10 |
Windows 8 | Contains DirectX 11.1. Requires additional installation DirectX 9.0c, 10 |
Windows 8.1 | Contains DirectX 11.2. Requires additional installation DirectX 9.0c, 10 |
Windows 10 | DirectX 12 in first major update. The list is growing 🙂 |
