Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Welcome to the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) page. Here you will find answers to the most common questions about our website, its content, and rules. If you cannot find an answer to your question, feel free to contact the administration.

Which languages are available on this website?

The current list of languages available for the site’s interface can be found on the homepage. You may notice that there are many more articles in Russian than in other languages. This is because many pages cover outdated events, such as contests, and there is no point in translating them. These pages are kept as archives.

Original materials may be in various languages. When publishing, translations into other languages are usually added to the original language. The number of languages depends on the specifics of the content: outdated or unpopular pages are usually available in one or two languages, while others may be translated into all supported languages at the time of publication.

Visitors can submit translations of articles into other languages. See the next question for more details.

How can I contribute to the development of the site (translations, corrections, adding content)?

Simply contact the administration by any available means. All options are listed on the feedback page.
The language of the message can be almost any, but it is better if it is an international language, such as English, Russian, or French. Usually, all issues are resolved during correspondence.
The message format is arbitrary.

For articles and translations, a simple text format in UTF-8 encoding is usually used. Other formats and encodings are also acceptable, but it is better to avoid those that support macros.

Are there differences between the language versions of the same page?

Usually, the text of the pages is identical, but sometimes we have to slightly adapt the information. For example, for English and French, the order of languages in the lists may differ due to differences in the names of the languages themselves. For German, regional features adopted in the European Union and specifically in Germany may be prioritized. For English, information relevant to many regions of the world may be indicated. If we have missed something, please inform our administration.

Are there any forbidden languages or regions?

No. Every language and culture has its own peculiarities, advantages, and disadvantages. Therefore, good deeds from any region and in any language are welcome. Conversely, bad deeds are not welcome, regardless of the region or language.

Can I use the site’s materials on other websites?

Generally, it is useless to prohibit it 😊. If you use materials from our site, simply place a link to the page you used and, ideally, slightly rework the text so that search engines do not get two identical copies of the same article on different websites.

Collaboration: Are there any special requirements?

Generally, our collaboration is something like a friendship between amateur projects. For example, exchanging links between our site and YouTube channels.
In the 2010s, we had a rather short-term collaboration with Electronic Arts Russia (2010-2014) and SoftClub (autumn 2011): we published news articles about upcoming games and held contests on a pro bono basis, with game discs as prizes.
However, in general, forbidden topics are: materials that contradict the concept of a safe Internet, related to weapons, profanity, and similar things. Therefore, for collaboration, only projects that fit within the 12+ restrictions are acceptable.

Why is the catalog of game modifications incomplete?

We publish creative works in agreement with their authors. Therefore, if the works of any author are missing, it is either because we are not yet familiar with that author, or they have prohibited publication for some reason. Exception: a set of works by one long-inactive author, which we published at the request of visitors and out of respect for his contribution to the development of creativity based on the first HP games.

Can I place ads on your site?

It depends on what is meant by advertising.
Pop-up windows with off-topic information or offers to download some software of unknown origin are not accepted. These things cause more problems than benefits.

However, publishing an article about a friendly project that matches the theme of our website is possible. See the question about collaboration.

What are the main rules for visitors?

In principle, it is a standard set: mutual respect, do not use profanity or inappropriate topics for public places on the Internet.

Why is the commenting system disabled?

This had to be done to ensure that our visitors did not have problems when visiting the site. Now it does not store any information about visitors, and communication has been moved to social networks.
With an active commenting system, the site could have stored email addresses and IPs.

Can users be blocked?

The website is accessible to everyone for reading. On social networks, the usual reasons and methods for blocking violators apply. Previously, when the commenting system was functional, users spreading inappropriate messages were blocked.

What are Cookies, and does your site use them?

Cookies are small files or data areas in the browser where websites can store various information in text form.

Our website does not use Cookies for visitors. However, we still display a message about consent to use Cookies, just in case.

Is this site non-profit? Can I support it financially?

Yes. Our website is amateur and non-profit.
If you wish, you can support the site with any amount. These funds are used to pay for the site’s hosting services on the Internet. All main support options are listed on this page.

Who is part of the site’s team, and who are the authors of the articles?

This is a rather complex question: the site is managed by AlexeyMS (formerly Alexms69).

The authors of the published materials and their translations are «wizards» from all over the world: authors of friendly projects or simply visitors. Their names or pseudonyms are usually indicated at the end of articles or in special zones of the page templates. If the author’s name is not specified, it is AlexeyMS. For all borrowed materials, the original sources are indicated.
